The Hare, the only pub in the village of West Hendred, has closed and been put on the market by it’s owners, Greene King.

A spokesman for the brewery stated the sale was part of the firm’s “strategy to reduce the size of its tenanted and leased estate”. Now a campaign has been mounted by the villagers to save the 200 year old pub and they are trying to raise the £425,000 needed to buy it.

A community-run Free House in West Hendred

They admit this will be a tough task but the village is determined to keep the pub and prevent change of use and possible development of the site. Their plan is to turn it into a community-run Free House by selling shares to raise the capital.
